What courts does LexisNexis CourtLink currently cover?Current coverage includes 90 of the 94 U.S. District courts for civil, criminal, and bankruptcy dockets; the Court of Federal Claims; access to the U.S. Circuit Courts of Appeals; and online access to state court information in 23 states. CourtLink is aggressively adding to its state court content with over 20 new courts in 2007.
Which U.S. District courts are not yet available through CourtLink?Only those courts which do not yet offer electronic storage of documents—which include the Districts of Alaska, Guam, Northern Mariana Islands, and the Virgin Islands.
How far back does CourtLink coverage extend?CourtLink has an historic, searchable database that goes back 10-20 years. No other provider offers this depth of information. Coverage currently includes all electronic dockets made available from the U.S. government’s Public Access to Court Records (PACER) system since the system’s creation in the early 1990s. Unlike PACER, CourtLink does not purge dockets. State court coverage is dependent on how far back records are available, how accessible they are through automated processes, and the willingness of the court authorities to allow access to the information. However, as with Federal records, CourtLink does not purge dockets once they have been received.
Can I obtain documents through CourtLink? In most cases, yes. In cases where electronic documents are available online, you may view a document instantaneously from our database or send a request to retrieve the document from one of our providers. Where documents are not available online, you can order them through our
Document Retrieval Service. Recently, CourtLink added over half a million exclusive documents available online as a result of File & Serve filings. These documents are largely state-court related.
Do I need to install software in order to use CourtLink? No. This program is web-based and may be accessed from any computer with Internet access.
How many people within a firm or company can have access to CourtLink?Everyone! There is no limit or cost per user. Each user will receive an individual login and password. Your on-site administrator can limit some access based on individual login. Conversely, you can share Alerts and Tracks with in-house team members who do not have direct access to CourtLink.
