How do I know whether Terms and Connectors (Boolean) or Natural Language searching is best for me?

Whether it is better to use Terms and Connectors or Natural Language for a particular search depends on your specific research needs.
Use Terms and Connectors when:

  • You want comprehensive information about an issue, topic, person, or company.
  • You want every word or its alternative to appear in each document.
  • You want to establish a specific relationship between your search words.
  • You want to restrict your search to a specific segment.

Use Natural Language when:
  • You want to research conceptual issues rather than highly specific topics.
  • You are starting to research a complex issue and you don't know its terminology.
  • You are unsure how to formulate a search using connectors.
  • You want to supplement a Terms and Connectors search.
